The Smog

2022. In the past few years, Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, has been at the top of the list of cities with the highest levels of air pollution in winter. The reason for this is the Smog.

With the onset of cold weather, local residents begin to heat their houses with coal and various low-quality fuel. High-quality fuel, and even more so, electric or gas heating is not available to everyone. A large number of one-story houses in the city, the presence of a large power plant and the absence of winds that would blow through the streets turn winter days into a nightmare when people try not to go out without a good reason and close their windows tightly.

But if you climb a little higher to the foothills adjacent to the city, you can see the clear sky again. Every year local media and environmental activists sound the alarm more and more actively and try to find a solution to the problem, but so far without much success.
